If you want to keep the leading zeros in Excel, you just need to format the cells as Text formating befor you typing the data. Select the range cells you want to type the data with leading zeros into, and right clcik to select Format Cells from the context menu. The problem is that most of our part numbers have leading zero's so when i convert from Excel to CSV they vanish so 007.100 for example becomes 7.100 I have searched the internet and i know you can convert the CSV file into a TXT file etc and run the wizard etc to keep the leading zeros but when i change the file back to.CSV the leading zero's again vanish.

I have a csv file exported from a website. There are id numbers in the first column. When I open the file with Numbers all leading zeros are trimmed from the id numbers.

This issue also comes up when dealing with zip codes (MA has a leading 0 in most zip codes for example).

Is there any way to configure Numbers to preserve those leading zeros when it opens new files of different formats?

I have poked at all the preferences I could find. It may be an OS X issue as well, perhaps there is a setting in system preferences I'm not aware of. Any suggestions would be welcomed.
